This is one of the best videos I’ve found as an introduction to SUP for beginners. The first minute talks about safety and how to be careful not to get blown out to sea on a windy day.
Next they cover how to attach your safety leash. This is a very important SUP accessory and should be number on on your top 10 list. Even with a life jacket if you loose your board how are you going to get back to shore?
Most helpful tips once you have your board in the water
Now that you have your board in the water the fun begins. Start out on your knees and center your self so when you stand up your feet are close to the carry handle at the center balance point of your board.
Paddle on your knees into the wind and look ahead at the horizon and not down at your board as you stand up for the best balance.
When paddling straight keep the paddle close to your board with the handle straight up and down.
To make a turn angle the paddle away from the board. Use your paddle for balance and dip it into the water to catch some support if you start to loose your balance. This is a little hard to explain make sure to check out the first instructional video below. Here is a link to a 7 video playlist on YouTube by blueplanetsurf.
